Coming to Camp Ozark for the first time, I was no stranger to summer camps and everything they usually entail—praise and worship, a little healthy competition, and ample amounts of fun. What I was unfamiliar with was the incomparable establishment that was indeed Camp Ozark, and how it would, in lack of better words, give my life a “spiritual makeover.” Camp Ozark amazes me in the fact that it never seems to lose sight of what is wholly true. Camp gave me relationships with people who push me everyday to be the best Christian I can possibly be, campers that reignited my childlike passion for life with Christ, and most importantly an ever-growing relationship with Him that lasts way beyond any 2-week session in Mt. Ida, AR. The friendships I’ve made are the ones that drive 6 hours just to visit for 2 days, answer SOS phone calls after a bad day, and get warm cookies delivered to your apartment, just because. Camp also put me in a position of leadership and mentorship that is unlike any responsibility I’ve had before. If I did my job right, my campers were learning things from me throughout their time at camp, but this was not an unrequited growing experience. The young ladies I have had the pleasure of meeting gave me such a unique, awe-inspiring outlook on Christ. Coaching tribal competition teams with kids who want nothing more than to play their heart out for the Lord’s glory is just 1 of 1,000 examples from Camp that drive me to live out these ideals at home as well. I cannot imagine my life without Camp Ozark (partially because I’m not sure who I even was before I was a Caddo), but also because the life lessons that I learned at Camp have extended far beyond Mt. Ida, Arkansas and have carried me through some of the best and most challenging seasons of my life. Margaret McCarron, Louisiana State University

Starting from seven years old to now sixteen, Camp Ozark has been one of the most pivotal and important pieces in my life. Each summer I spend two weeks in the most amazing place with even more amazing people surrounding me. The atmosphere within the gates of Camp Ozark is incomparable. Camp has taught me the mercy and love of God, and the staff has taught me that I can make a difference in the world. Many of the counselors I’ve met at camp have instilled in me the importance of community, and they still reach out to me weekly to inspire and challenge me. The countless life lessons I’ve learned from camp have changed my life in so many ways. If it weren’t for Camp Ozark and their amazing staff each and every year, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. I love Camp Ozark because of the people. The campers and staff of Camp Ozark have loved me and challenged me to be a better leader and friend than I could have ever imagined! I have been blessed with the opportunity to get to know and encourage kids of all ages, but they have taught me more than I could ever teach them.

Going into college I always knew I wanted to work at a Christian summer camp… I had gone to recruiting camps for sports my whole life and always looked up to my coaches/counselors, both on and off the field, and the impact they had on my life was immense… I talk to a lot of them even today! With that said, with the goal of working at an elite summer camp in mind, I kept my options open and didn’t take the interview process lightly. I did my research and interviewed with multiple camps, but one stood out in particular: Camp Ozark. And yes, though the blobs and waterslides were very appealing, and the ‘Vimeo’ videos were impressive… Those were extremely minor factors that went into my decision-making when deciding where I wanted to spend my summer. I chose to work at Camp Ozark because I wanted to be a part of something bigger. Because I wanted to have an impact. Because I wanted to be part of a family. Because I wanted to do God’s work. And boy did I make the right decision! I have had a deep love for Camp Ozark for as long as I can remember. My parents met and married as a result of their Ozark experience, so camp is literally in my blood! From being pushed around by a nanny in a stroller when I wasn't old enough to be a camper, to being a camper for 11 years, to serving as an LIT and counselor, Camp Ozark has shaped me into the Man of God I am today. I'm very thankful for the opportunity to develop tight friendships with people from all over the country. I’ve made great friends from Arkansas, Texas, California, and Louisiana, just to name a few. And these aren't just pen pal friends, but BEST friends! Developing my faith and getting to see the greatest friends of all time are two of the main reasons I look forward to summer every day, and why I can't wait to get back to incomparable Camp Ozark as a staff member this summer! Camp is a place where you can physically see God’s love. It’s visible In the joy on campers’ faces, in the high-standards and expectations, and in the way staff members care and live for the kids. The camp program emphasizes the capacity of this everyday. Whether it is in tribal competition, going to the lake, or in devotionals at night, kids AND staff are taught and reminded how invested The Lord is in our individual lives. The way staff members intentionally love the kids all year-round positively influences their walks’ with Christ. If I can show even just one child the same love I have witnessed in this place, then I want to be there every moment I can be. As a former camper, and now counselor, I can say with certainty that there are very few places where Christ’s presence is so obvious.
